The Fight Against Ash Dieback

About the project

Surrey Forestry are focussed on doing all that we can to fight Ash Dieback. Looking at the speed our Ash are being infected it comes as no surprise that landowners and councils are now facing an extreme amount of pressure to combat the disease as quickly as they can and we fully understand the implications involved.

Ash dieback is caused by a fungus called Hymenoscyphus fraxineus which stops the water transport systems in the tree, causing leaf loss, lesions in the wood and on the bark and the ‘dieback’ of the crown.

If you are a landowner or Land Manager and Ash Dieback isn’t already part of your tree management program then you may now be facing a long and expensive project dealing with the removal of large and dangerous dead Ash.

As you may well be aware, Ash is commonly found along the side of most of the UK’s public roads and due to this, Ash Dieback is likely to have an enormous impact both to public safety and traffic flow.

Without specialist knowledge and arboriculture industrial equipment these works will take a considerable amount of time, labour and disruption to both local economies, our roads and soft ground.

At Surrey Forestry, we have a variety of specialist large scale arboriculture industry equipment to action the removal of brittle diseased trees in the safest and efficiently techniques possible. Allowing minimum disruption to public safety, road traffic and soft ground.

Our tree shear rotates 360 degrees, providing complete control at both cutting fragile deceased specimens and placing the them down in precise locations ready to be quickly removed from site, rather than letting them fall. The unwavering control and extensive reach of our shears allow us to work on the largest of tree specimens.

The most important factor is saving these trees. However, when having to cut and dismantle dangerous specimens, the job of our shear is both fast and safe due to the reduced need for operators at the tree dismantling area and precision of where we can lay the trunks after dismantling.

Our specialist equipment allows us to cover large areas of woodland quickly and efficiently, keeping traffic and public disruption to a minimum. No wood is wasted. Our mobile chipper and industrial kiln allow us to chip, dry and return woodchip biomass fuel.

Recycling is an integral part of our high standard of work. We were recently chosen by Guildford Borough Council as their leading biomass tender for 2020. Reinstating tracks and paths after our work is done is also an extremely important aspect at the end of a job. We aim to ensure as little sign of disturbance as possible, so that those who enjoy the forests can continue to do so.

Surrey Forestry have significantly invested in resources to support our clients control of Ash Dieback. Surrey is blessed with a 1500 hectares of ancient woodland for residents and visitors to explore and we are proud to protect and nurture these trees. We are your quickest and most cost-effective solution.
